I read the entire Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. I was hooked from the first one. Now these are not great literature but are intensely enjoyable. In the scale of vampire novels it was more Twilight for adults than Dracula.
They are the novels that the True Blood tv series are based on but I think the novels are much better. That may be because I prefer reading to watching tv though. I'm very tempted to get rid of the goggle-box completely but I feel that would be wrong with my husband working in tv.
Also this month I read The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. I wasn't so taken by this. I'm not one for scary stories, comical given my comments above, but the Sookie Stackhouse books are hardly scary. I had to read it for work as it's the stimulus for our new drama scheme and it does have lots of good material for drama but I was unconvinced by the main character. That's a bit awkward as it's written in the first person so I didn't really have much of a chance of enjoying it.
Lastly I read Life Without by Ben Warden. This is a romance novel write from the male perspective. Again I wasn't a big fan of the protagonist but I quite enjoyed reading the book. Essentially, it's the story of a man who has had a charmed life until everything falls apart. I'd give this a 2/5 because the characters were not very realistic and the story was unbelievable. I guess with this review you may wonder why it's even 2/5 but it was refreshing reading such a chick-lit style story written by a man with a male perspective.
What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them?

Sookie Stackhouse books are my guilty pleasure--campy fun! Wish she'd write some more of them.
